Millennials at Work

The millennial generation isn’t easy to define, but one thing is for sure — they are bringing change to the workplace.

The millennial generation isn’t easy to define, but one thing is for sure — they are bringing change to the workplace. It’s one of the reasons why Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) launched a new Business Resource Group (BRG) in 2016 called Engaging Millennial Energy to Recognize Growth Enterprisewide (EMERGE). EMERGE seeks to leverage the generational differences in the workplace and highlight the unique perspectives that millennial employees contribute to the workforce and community.

“The BRGs are designed to help employees feel connected, respected and valued. EMERGE is a great addition to these beliefs,” says LaTreshia Roebuck, state chair of EMERGE Oklahoma.

EMERGE members are ready to make a difference in the workplace and Oklahoma communities. Through thoughtful conversation and engaging activities, EMERGE members collaborate with coworkers to help one another have a better understanding of how every generation may work together.

When I volunteer, I love seeing firsthand the impact that I’m having on an organization and the audience it serves.

BCBSOK’s strong commitment to give back to Oklahoma communities connects well with millennials, who have grown up in a world where community service is often integrated into everyday activities, like school and work. EMERGE members take time out of the work day to participate in community outreach opportunities like the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in Tulsa.

“When I volunteer, I love seeing firsthand the impact that I’m having on an organization and the audience it serves. Whether I am packing food at the food bank or helping kids form healthy habits, I always strive to leave a positive influence on someone’s life,” says Lauren Dennison, BCBSOK employee, millennial and EMERGE Oklahoma secretary.

As millennials continue to influence the workplace, BCBSOK is poised to embrace the new approaches to work and health, which will aid our members and our communities. Check back next year to see the impact that BCBSOK EMERGE has on our community!
